The capital of Zanzibar, the old city sits on a triangular peninsula on the west coast of the island, covers an area of 96 ha.
It was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2000, being one of the most important cities in Swahili culture. Among the tourist attractions in the area are the House of Wonders, the Sultan’s Palace and the Old Fort.
